Google Cloud Platform is a suite of cloud computing services which is provided by Google. Google Cloud Platform provides very similar services to Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Google Cloud Platform provides Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS) and Serverless Computing.

Google Cloud Platform is a part of Google Cloud where Google Cloud provides the G Suite, Android, and Chrome OS Enterprise, Google Maps Enterprise.

Google Cloud Platform History

In April 2008, Google announced the App Engine platform which is used for developing and hosting web applications in Google-managed data centers. The first step to the Google Cloud Platform was the App Engine service.

  • In May 2010, Google Cloud Storage has launched in order to provide a storage area for cloud services.
  • In May 2013, Google Compute Engine is released which provides processing and computing services.
  • In June 2014, Kubernetes is announced as an open-source container manager and used for Google Cloud Platform.
  • In April 2015, Google Cloud DNS became generally available.
  • In May 2017, Google Cloud IoT service became generally available.
  • May 2018, Google named as a leader in the 2018 Gartner IaaS Magic Quadrant.
  • In November 2019, Google Cloud Run became generally available.
